MVHR
Here at Staylor Timberframe we are BPEC accredited to design, install & commission MVHR systems. We encourage our customers to look into these products as part of their energy reduction strategy. The systems can be added to customers projects on request.
MVHR, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, is a necessary addition for energy efficient homes. MVHR is a whole house ventilation strategy which can retain up to 95% of the outgoing heat whilst ventilating the building, where as trickle ventilation will lose 100% of the heat whilst ventilating the same space. Trickle ventilation can cause condensation problems down the road & it also reduces air tightness & therefore the energy efficiency of the building.
MVHR works by extracting warm moist air from wet areas, such as bathrooms & kitchens. This air is then passed through a heat exchanger in the MVHR unit. The heat exchanger warms the incoming fresh air, which is pumped into living areas & bedrooms. As well as ventilating the building the systems also reduce allergens by filtering the air as it comes into the home.
The ducting is installed at first fix stage along with plumbing & electrics etc, prior to the internal finishes being installed. All that is visible in the finished building are small vents in each room where they will either extract moist air or bring in fresh, warmed air as needed. The MVHR units themselves can be fitted in spaces as small as kitchen cupboards if necessary.
